Wright WM2500: Milestones in Thrust and Altitude Testing

At Wright Electric, our mission is to revolutionize aviation through cutting-edge electric propulsion systems. As covered by Aviation Week and FlightGlobal, we're thrilled to share two significant milestones in the development of our WM2500 electric propulsion system (EPS), a 2 megawatt-class motor and inverter designed for regional jets and larger commercial aircraft.

Thrust Testing Begins with New Test Stand

In collaboration with REA Space/Rzeszow University of Technology, we've completed the construction of a dedicated thrust test stand for electric jet engine performance analysis. This facility utilizes a 7,000-pound thrust LF507-1F fan module donated by Executive Jet Support Ltd, representative of propulsion loads for regional jets. With support from CFS Aeroproducts Ltd and Avalon Aero Ltd, we've converted the engine module into a single-stream configuration compatible with electric motors. Initial low-power thrust testing (500 kW) will utilize our first-generation electric motor, while full-power testing will follow the completion of the second-generation WM2500 EPS.

Altitude Testing Achieved at NASA NEAT

We've also successfully completed our first round of high-altitude chamber testing of the WM2500 EPS at NASA's Electric Aircraft Testbed (NEAT). The motor was tested to full voltage of 800V at a simulated altitude of 40,000 feet. This milestone validates the WM2500's performance under real-world flight conditions, critical for aircraft larger than 30 passengers that typically cruise above 30,000 feet. The WM2500 was developed with support from the U.S. Department of Energy's ARPA-E ASCEND program.

These achievements mark significant progress in our journey to bring electric propulsion to commercial aviation. We're proud of our team's dedication and the support from our partners and look forward to sharing more updates as we continue to advance the aerospace industry.

Electrically,

Jeff and Team Wright
